My name’s Roberto, but everyone calls me Rob. I was born and raised in southern Italy. 🇮🇹

I grew up in a very small town with not much to do, and always had a big passion for food. For me, food was everything. It wasn’t just meals—it was tradition, family, and comfort. ❤️

But somewhere around my mid-30s, my love for food caught up with me. At over 140 kilos (308 lbs), even simple things like climbing stairs felt like a huge challenge.

One day, after running out of breath from a very short walk, I decided it was time to stop making excuses. I made a difficult decision, even though I wasn’t sure I’d stick with it: I joined a gym. 💪

That’s where I met Luca, the gym trainer. He was the kind of guy who didn’t take himself too seriously—always wearing T-shirts with funny slogans like “Will Squat for Pizza.” At first, I hated the workouts, but Luca made them bearable—even fun. He wore a different funny T-shirt every day, and we slowly became friends.

A year later, I’d lost 30 kilos (66 lbs) and felt like a completely different person. I knew I still had a long road ahead of me, but I couldn't believe how far I had come.

Around that same time, I got a job offer in New York. 🗽 It was a big move, but I was ready for a fresh start. I finally felt good about myself again, and I was ready to bet on me.

In my first month there, I met Marianne. This amazing woman with incredible energy, we hit it off right away. We started seeing each other, and before long, we knew we were building something serious.

Now, Marianne and I are married and still living in the US, and we’ve launched Buddy Weight, an online store for funny and motivational gym T-shirts. It’s our way of making fitness a little less intimidating and a little more fun—just like Luca did for me.

I hope to inspire others like me to take that first step, because it will save your life.
